Review: SPRMRKT @ McCallum St

After our disappointing visit to My Awesome CafeI recalled that SPR.MKRT was around the area as well. I’ve been hearing a lot about this place, especially for their Truffle Fries, however their location (again!) has been deterring me from visiting them for the longest time. Since we were around that area, I thought it would be a good idea to visit them!

The Place

SPRMRKT is located just diagonally opposite Amoy Food Center, in between Tanjong Pagar and Raffles Place MRT. This pretty place may be easily missed if you are not looking out for it. If you can’t seem to find it, SPRMRKT is located along McCallum Street, right next to the 7-11. A 5-minutes walk from My Awesome Cafe!

Food. Retail. Art. True to its name, SPRMRKT aims to redefine one’s shopping experience by combining the enjoyment for food, retail and art in one single space. Art, the paintings on the wall decorating the cafe are all for sale.

The Food

So now, it’s time for their third offering as a supermarket; Food. As we already had lunch, we decided to straight for something light, their highly raved Truffle Fries ($12)!

As the prices on the menu are NETT, there are no GST and Service charge, you would have to grab the menu off the table on your own! Here’s a page off their menu:

Just as we were about to place our orders at the counter, we saw the cake display, and the Chocolate Peanut Butter Cake ($8) caught our eyes, because peanut butter. We got that too.

The peanut butter frosting was not too sweet, with the savory crunch to it. We thought that was good enough for us, and then we bit into the chocolate cake and found that the cake was amazingly moist and chocolatey. One of the best cakes we both have had. And for $8, it was a pretty good serving too! Processed with VSCOcam with c1 preset Photo 16-11-14 2 44 14 pm Truffle Fries with Parmesan and Kelp ($12): This was one of the most pricey truffle fries I’ve had , but it’s worth every single cent. When this was served to us, the aroma of truffle just overwhelmed everyone in the cafe. I believe the table next to us ordered a serving of that after smelling the truffle. Served with actual truffle bits, with parmesan and kelp, this was hands down the BEST truffle fries I’ve ever had. The fries were crisp and the taste of truffle was so well-infused that you can taste them with every bite. This is a definite MUST ORDER when you’re here at SPRMRKT.

Closing Remarks

These were the only items we ordered here at SPRMRKT, and I regretted not coming here earlier. The both items we’ve had here were not only hits, they were out of this world. Besides, browsing through their Brunch menu made my gluttony overwhelm myself. I WANT TO HAVE EVERYTHING ON THE MENU. And with these 2 items, I believe that the standards of all the other items on the menu would not deviate too much from them.

I can’t wait to pay them a visit again for their brunch menu, and be wow-ed again. They have definitely turned around my day after my crappy experience at My Awesome Cafe.
