We braved the storm and rode in the rain just to get to Les Patisseries. I’ve heard and seen a lot about Les Patisseries, especially for their L’Rocky, which is basically a giant ball of Rocher, which is also something I did not get to try on that day.
The Place
Les Patisseries is located under a HDB block in Toa Payoh as well, and it requires some walking from Toa Payoh Central. Its appearance was rather unassuming to me, maybe because I was zoning out after the coffeeshops, salons, and nail parlors that has been popping up repeatedly along the way. Les Patisseries probably occupies 2 units because they are relatively spacious for a cafe located within the heartlands. When you enter the cafe, you would be enticed with the display of sweet treats along the counter as you can see. They have really pretty sweet treats, which I thought they could probably survive with those and some quality coffee. They go with a dominantly warm theme, with red and brown being the main colors they use in the cafe. The place could probably sit about 20 patrons max at one go. They also have a relatively open concept kitchen right beside the counter, separated by just a clear glass window. This is probably a really good idea because when any one orders the truffle dish, the aroma of truffle just spreads through the cafe, and that’s just the best thing ever! Haha!
The Food
Their menu is written on the blackboard just behind the counter, which can get a little difficult to read since they may get blocked by the people behind the counter.
I was impressed by Les Patisseries before I visited them because of the good review the boy had about their L’Rocky, and this particular banana walnut loaf that he bought for me, was one of the best loaves I’ve had. It was really moist and fragrant. I’m usually not a fan of walnuts in my loaves and desserts, however I thought that the use of walnuts in this loaf just gave it the needed crunch, and the chocolate chips hidden in the loaf also elevated the flavors of the glorious banana loaf. By the way, the best Banana Loaf I’ve had is from 2 Loaves, but this is a really really really close second.
We ordered 2 mains initially. I got the Truffle Baked Mushroom Pasta ($9.90), while the boy had the LP Big Breakfast Set ($13.90).
Truffle Baked Mushroom Pasta ($9.90): We all ogled at this dish in excitement when it was first served to us. It looked absolutely delish, and the aroma of baked pasta and truffle, was just heavenly. Not forgetting that it was pouring heavily on the outside, we really appreciated the warmth from this baked pasta and how cosy it made us feel inside, like Goldilocks eating the 3 bears’ porridge. The taste of this dish was pretty decent, however was a little disappointing for me because I had really high expectations of it, especially from its description and presentation. Even though they were not stingy with their cheese, I thought the star of the dish, the taste of truffle was missing, as well as the mushrooms. It gets a little boring after a couple of bites because the pasta became really bland with just the cheese. The dish really needed the juiciness of the mushrooms, to complement the dish. Moreover, the top the baked dish was burnt and it gave off a rather overpowering charred taste, which I did not enjoy. This dish could really do better with more mushrooms or a greater variety of mushrooms!
However, with the price tag, I thought it’s really affordable for a truffle dish, despite its absence in taste! LP Big Breakfast ($13.90): This is the classic breakfast dish we all love. A comforting dish, even though the sausage looks a little wrong.. The Big breakfast consists of a side of salad, sausages, sauteed mushrooms, bacon and scrambled eggs! It’s a pretty safe dish to fall back on if you don’t know what to get here! Dulcey Hazelnut Tart ($7): We decided to order their famous Horffles after our meal, and while I was placing my order, this tart caught my eye. It tastes almost as good as it looks. Hazelnut bits decorating the edge of the tart, and a caramel center. The taste of the dish went really well together. However, the tart base may be a little too hard and thick for one’s liking, but I loved it because I love TART BASES!
Horffles ($9.90): The famous Horlicks waffles from Les Patisseries. A very, very photogenic waffle. Waffles, topped with 2 scoops of vanilla ice cream, almond bits, raspberries, strawberries and blueberries, finally drowned with Horlicks sauce. I wouldn’t say the fruits go well with the taste of the waffles, more for aesthetics’ sake. I was actually pretty disappointed with the waffles. Firstly, because this is THE Horffles, I would expect myself to taste Horlicks, however that was painfully absent. Secondly, the waffles were overly crispy for me, then again it’s personal preference. But the insides of the waffle were really hollow, and tasteless. So the whole dish was basically really, underwhelming for my palate, and painful for the roof of my mouth cause it’s really that rough and crispy. Hahaha! I guess they might need to do something with the “horlicks” syrup they are using, as well as the batter of the waffle.
Closing Remarks
I would say I rather enjoyed my visit to Les Patisseries, even though the food I had was not up to par. Maybe because of its ambience, and the pretty cakes and tarts they had to offer. I think that they may have been too diverse in their offering, and hence may not be able to upkeep the consistency of the quality of their food.
Yet, I believe that this cafe would survive the competition, because of its relatively affordable food and sweet treats. They would need a little tweaking to improve their quality of food, and when they do, I believe Les Patisseries would be the place to visit in Toa Payoh.

Your postal code for the cafe is wrong “Singapore 310186”. My friend and I used it with an app for directions and was brought entirely to the wrong place and left stranded there without reaching the cafe. It is supposed to be “310168”.
Hi Rui,
I’m sorry for providing the wrong address as I’ve taken it from their Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/lespatisseries.com.sg/info?tab=page_info, just in case I remembered it wrongly. Unfortunately they’ve gotten it wrong as well.
Thank you for the heads up though, I’ll edit it accordingly!
Cheers,
