The Udder Pancake has been on my radar since its opening at Lorong Kilat. Pancakes with exotic toppings? That’s definitely my kind of food. Besides, pancakes. Who can resist pancakes?! However, it took us a while to finally decide to visit them because Lorong Kilat is kinda inaccessible, despite it being relatively near NUS.
The Place
The interior of Udder Pancake is one of those places that would tempt even the least of phone camera users, with their quirky design.
Look, even the entrance of the place is so cute!
Basically, you would find one of these quirky little “In case of…” scenarios at every nook and corner of these cafe, and some of them are really pretty witty and funny. You guys should definitely pay them a visit for this different experience, as well as to snap some photos of these cute little emergency boxes.
The Udder Pancake is an extension of the original outlet of Udders, the ice cream parlor along Lorong Kilat. They have expanded to the unit beside them, connecting both the ice cream parlor and the cafe with a minimal walkway. Patrons of Udders and TUP are allowed to occupy any of the seats in these 2 units.
The Food
I was, of course really excited to visit TUP because I’ve seen so much of their Eggs Benedict Pancakes on Instagram, and we took a peek in their pretty little menu while enjoying our ice cream previously. I loved the menu especially, because of the really good sketch of their dishes. Another thing that makes them different from their counterparts.
Pardon the spam of pictures, but here’s the well thought out and decorated menu, which I like A LOT. I am pretty satisfied with the pricing of the dishes, even though it may seem a little pricey for just pancakes. But I am sure everyone would be more than willing to pay to try the innovative dishes like what TUP has up their sleeves.
For appetizers, we contemplated between the Truffle Fries ($13.90) and The Udder Shrooms ($8.90) and ended up getting the latter because we thought that the former was really pricey. Frankly, the highest price I am willing to pay for Truffle fries is $12. Definitely not more than that.
The Udder Shrooms ($8.50): Crunchy deep-fried bacon-wrapped white button mushrooms, served with curry mayo. We were surprised that it was served with a breaded exterior, and there were 4 balls of shrooms, perfect for sharing. What’s inside an Udder Shroom. A breaded exterior, with bacon wrapped white mushrooms; crispy on the outside, and yet juicy on the inside. However, I thought that the taste of this dish was being overwhelmed by the breaded exterior, and I couldn’t taste any of the bacon or shrooms, which was kind of disappointing. The curry mayo that accompanied this dish could give the curry sauce at McDonald’s a run for their money!
For the mains, I went for the Tequila-Fired Seafood Pot ($18.90), while the boy went for the Salmon, Crab, & Caviar Egg Benedict ($24.90). Fancy.
Tequila-Fired Seafood Pot ($18.90): How often do you see pancakes served like this? The creativity of Udders with their pancakes has really exceeded my expectations.
This dish consisted of prawns, mussels, and scallops seared with tequila, served in a light spiced garlic cream sauce. The seafood in this dish were plump and fresh. But the star of this dish was the amazing garlic cream sauce, which I slurped it all up as if it was broth. This savory cream sauce was a perfect compliment to the hint of sweetness present in the pancakes. Beware though, you may find it a little jelat when you’re reaching the end of the pot!
Salmon, Caviar and Crab Egg Benedict ($24.90): Your regular poached eggs with atas ingredients, on grilled cheddar cheese pancakes.
These pancakes were the best I’ve ever eaten. My eyes welled up with tears with the first bite of this divine combination. The combination of crab slaw with the pancakes completed my dining experience. Besides, the caviar and cucumber bits elevated the dish by giving it an added crunch. A tad bit high on the price tag, but you really do pay for what you get. I highly recommend this dish when you’re here at The Udder Pancake!
Of course, the perfect end to every meal is DESSERTS! My chance to have this Bailey’s infused tiramisu was finally here! I have seen tons of photos of this dish on Instagram, and been longing to have it. The day has finally arrived and it certainly did not disappoint.
Bailey’s Tiramisu ($11.90): When I told the price to my friends, their jaw dropped. WHAT? $12 for a cake. NO WAY. My take is, it’s for the experience, look at the syringe… SO CUTE. It’s totally Instagram worthy, no? And it’s BAILEY’S! And Tiramisu. And milicrepe-ish! If you’re willing to pay $9++ for a milicrepe at Lady M, why not just top up a dollar or two more for a cute syringe (of baileys)!
Here’s how the tiramisu looked like after injecting the syringe into it.
Honestly, when i ordered this dessert, I did not have high expectations for it. It was just for the experience. However, I was pretty much blown away by how good this tasted. The tiramisu milicrepe was moist, and I liked how it was being served cold together with the Bailey’s. The taste of alcohol was not overpowering, yet distinct enough to complement the tiramisu. I dare say this was one of the better desserts I’ve ever had in my 22 years of living.
Closing Remarks
I thoroughly enjoyed my visit at The Udder Pancake. The cafe was extremely spacious, and the decorations that they had in their interior were also innovative and fun to look at. A perfect entertainment for one while waiting for their meals to be served. I especially liked how the cafe manages to play with the different combinations of ingredients, served with their pancakes. Being a huge fan of pancakes, their opening was the best news for me in the entire year. Besides the location, its prices may be a little steep for just pancakes, and it may be a limiting factor for my future visits. However, considering the ingredients they use, and the thought put in to their menu, I think The Udder Pancake deserves to be visited at least once in your cafe hopping career.
