Menu Update: 23 Jumpin @ 1 Irving Place

I think as food bloggers, we often overlook the “older” cafes, in our pursuit of visiting the never-ending sprout of new cafes in every nook and cranny in Singapore. I recently found out that there are many of these older cafes, which are actually coming up with new, and some innovative dishes to keep up with the competition, as well as the food trends in the cafe scene. They deserve some credit and recognition, and are definitely worth a re-visit.

Therefore, I have created a new category on my blog for all these worthy re-visits on the Updated Menu section. Let me first start with the cafe I frequent the most!

23 Jumpin

This is one cafe that has impressed me with its sincere service and tenacity to improve. They have more than a couple of new items since my first visit.

1) Iced Mocha and Latte Art Processed with VSCOcam with f2 preset

I remembered being underwhelmed by their iced mocha on my very first and second visit in November last year, however, they were receptive to feedback, tweaked their ratios and now, it’s one of my favorite place to get an iced mocha. And look, they even have cute latte art like totoro, and if you’re lucky, FOAM ART TOO! Sorry took too long to take pictures so most of the latte art literally foamed and died.

2) Irish Coffee ($5)

How often can you find Irish coffee in cafes? Baileys, Rum compound and Irish cream in this cup of goodness. A good cup to try if you’re sick of your usual caffeine fix!

3) Pizza-Waffle (or what I fondly call it, The Wazzle) ($14)

A twist to your usual savory waffles, with PIZZA TOPPINGS. They’ve got 2 variations currently – Mushroom and Hawaiian. Definitely a dish for the pizza or/and waffle lover, as well as for the fickle-minded, because you can choose to get a half-half, Haiwaiian on one, and Mushroom on the other! What an innovative dish. The first of such I’ve seen in Singapore!

4) Honey Paprika Wings ($8)

They have boldly expanded their starters, with the addition of the above, spicy drumlets, truffle fries and cheese fries! Now you know where you could head to for some light bites!

These single boned wings definitely makes it easier for you to chew on, and the smaller size allows the chicken to be marinated more evenly, and every single wing to be fried to perfection. I loved this. Best in Singapore, JB and some say LOLA’S?

5) Truffle Fries ($12)
Processed with VSCOcam with c1 preset Note: This is just a portion for me to taste cause I ate a lot just for this post. The actual portion is so huge, it’s good to share. The only complaint 23 Jumpin received from these was that too much truffle oil was used. Mmm.. Generous people!

6) Charcoal Waffles ($7, or $9 with ice cream)
Processed with VSCOcam with a6 presetDefinitely not new on the menu, but they’ve tweaked their recipe for this not once, not twice, but thrice. Not the usual charcoal waffle with charcoal powder. The dark brown color comes from extra dark chocolate powder added to its batter. Crispy on the exterior, while dense on the inside, the way I love my waffles. Hey, with a hint of chocolatey taste too!

7) Chocolate Lava Cake with Ice Cream ($8.50)

This lava cake is not made in-house, but 23 Jumpin got the quality covered. These amazing lava cakes are from 3 Inch Sin, the very supplier for Craft Bistro (then, Craft Bakery), which is known for their lava cakes.

8) Truffle Infused Creamy Mushroom Pasta ($15)
Processed with VSCOcam with c1 preset Processed with VSCOcam with c1 preset I thought I was frolicking in the truffle garden when the dish was served because the aroma of truffle was just ALLURING. See the black flakes atop of the mountain of mushrooms? Okay, dont get too excited, they are not truffle. BUT, these are chopped portobello mushroom, infused in truffle oil to give you more truffle goodness with every bite in this bowl of pasta. Indeed truffly, but the pasta felt a little too dry for me. BUT, they have since tweaked the ratios, and I heard it’s much better now!

I am indeed amazed by the amount of work 23 Jumpin has put in, in terms of innovation and polishing upon feedback. Located in the peaceful Tai Seng area, they are definitely a place you could chill at if you’re looking for a good cuppa, or meal. Before I forget, their waffles have recently been added into Brad’s Top 16  List of Must-Try waffles in Singapore! I guess my mum was right when she said hard work pays off!
