I’d better get this post up as early as possible because Thai Express has launched their Songkran menu for a limited time period only — from 9th March to 19th April! If you didn’t know, Songkran is celebrated in Thailand as the traditional New Year’s Day from 13-15 April every year. During the celebrations, there will be lots of water pouring as water pouring symbolizes the washing of all of the bad away!
Thai Express is celebrating the Songkran festival with 4 new dishes, free mini water pistols and also a chance to win a luxurious trip to Bangkok and Koh Samui!
1) Pla Muk Khi Khem (Thai-Style Salted Egg Calamari) – $10.90
Fried Calamari drizzled with Chef’s special Thai-Style Salted Egg Sauce. Seriously, is there anyone that doesn’t like salted egg yolk?! A closer look at this dish! The salted egg sauce is unlike those of we have at the hawker, because this consists of chunks of salted egg (including the whites), with a slight tinge of basil and spiciness! Pretty yummy and good! Goes best with just a plate of rice!
2. Som Tum (Papaya Salad) – $9.90 We are all familiar with this eh? The Thai’s favorite, and something we all would have tried if we went to Bangkok – The Somtum, yum yum in my tum tum. Thai Green Papaya and carrots mixed in with specially concocted papaya salad sauce and chili padi. A dish that receives a thumbs up for me, because I’m usually not a fan of papaya or its salad, but this was very appetizing for me!
3. Songkran Wing – $10.90Deep fried wings, sprinkled with crispy basil leaves, fried garlic flakes, dried chili, salt and sugar. These wings were fragrant, and well-seasoned. Maybe a little too well-seasoned. I thought they might have overkilled with the salt in this one, in addition to the garlic flakes. A little too salty, nevertheless still a very tasty dish!
4. Phad Mee Phuket – $16.90
Thai Style Bee Hoon served with tiger prawns. This was hands down the favorite out of the Songkran menu, heck, the whole Thai Express menu, and was also easily the table’s favorite of the day!
Three whole portions of tiger prawns, with bee hoon stir-fried with homemade sweet and sour sauce along with notes of fresh coconut. You could identify the coconut in this dish when it is first served to you, with its fragrance whiffing into the air. Love at first smell. If there’s only one thing you can try on this Songkran menu, get this. You wouldn’t regret it.
Well.. If none of this dishes has caught your eye, the usual Thai Express menu is still available for your enjoyment, like the tom yum glass noodles! Oh did I mention? Spend a minimum of $50 (before GST and service charge) to get a free mini water gun and a unique code to enter the lucky draw for a grand prize of a pair of return Business Class tickets to Bangkok and Koh Samui to experience the Songkran festival from 10 – 14th April!!! I heard the accommodation is pretty dope too!
So what are you waiting for?! Head down to Thai Express for your meals soon!
Last but not least, thank you Thai Express for the invite!
