For those who have been following my blog, you may find the name, L’ECLAIR familiar, as I’ve mentioned them here before! Of course, if you’ve read and felt really sad for missing the pop-up eclair store of L’ECLAIR, well.. Here’s some good news!
Sarah and Michelle have finally moved out of their pop-up store lives and, in an attempt to stop themselves from devastating the hearts of millions, they have officially opened their very own pastry shop at Singapore Shopping Center! Now, you can enjoy those pretty-looking eclairs any time you want!
What makes the eclairs from L’ECLAIR stand out from the usual eclairs we have, is their aesthetically pleasing exterior, and the uniquely flavored interior. What? I thought eclairs always is only chocolate on top, and vanilla or chocolate filling inside? Inspired by the French pastry shops during their time in Le Cordon Bleu, Sarah and Michelle hopes to bring what they call the “Twenty-First Century” eclair here to Singapore. They might just be THE trendsetters for exquisite-looking eclairs to be commonplace in our local cafes!

Clad in their monochromatic hues, the interior of L’ECLAIR tugged at my heartstrings, as I had to stifle a squeal of excitement as I entered the place. The design of their pastry store screams of elegance and style, and the black-white combination complemented the food they served, as it made the beautifully crafted and colorful eclairs stand out in contrast.
The Food
Their beverages list includes coffee (with beans from La Ristrettos), teas from Betjeman and Barton, and handcrafted sodas from Citizen Pop. Their eclairs are priced at either $7.50 or $8.
Besides eclairs, the only savory dish served at L’ECLAIR is this Chicken and Bacon Pie ($12). Served with a side salad, this pie was my favorite combination of sweet and savory. Within the crisp crust lies the generous stuffing of bacon, mushroom and chicken. While this is served as a savory option, the crust of the pie was intentionally made sweet, for the sweet-savory combination as you indulge in this pie. This was perfect, in my opinion. However, my dining partner was not too impressed as she thought it was just weird for a pie to involve the sweet component.
Not shown here were the beverages we ordered. I say, go for the teas. They can be perfectly matched for the different flavors of eclairs you choose, a rather refreshing experience.
L’ECLAIR sells up to 10 unique flavors everyday. In their repertoire of eclairs, there are their classic collection and seasonal collection.
In the classic collection, they involve:
Vanilla & Pecan
Dark Chocolate
Salted Caramel
Isaphan
While in the seasonal collection, there are:
Mango Passionfruit
Matcha
Banana Walnut
Lemon Meringue
Earl Grey
Pistachio
Of the 10, we tried 8 of the flavors, and the overall consensus championed the Lemon Meringue for its refreshing tanginess, which made it memorable on all of our tastebuds. We realized that the flavors in the seasonal collection tended upon the lighter side, for example, the pistachio flavor had only a slight hint of pistachio, which was definitely not sufficient to satisfy our pistachio craving. Despite the lightness, all of the eclairs in the seasonal collection seemed to have left a greater impression, as compared to the classic ones. Probably because of their more unique twists to the flavor profile in an eclair!
If you’re looking for something really photoworthy, I’d highly recommend the Isaphan – Light rose cream, lychees and fresh raspberries, with a HUGE pink petal on it (not sure if it’s edible though!). In this, we thought that the flavor and sourness of the raspberry masked the delicate taste of the rose cream. So, I’d suggest to have them separately if you can! Hehe!
Closing Remarks
Overall, I was impressed with the unorthodox looking and tasting eclairs at L’ECLAIR. With the baking poweress and talent from the graduates of Le Cordon Bleu, we will definitely be expecting a lot more from them in the future! While the aesthetic eclairs were worth the visit, we felt that the price tag was a tad too hefty! $8 for an eclair would mean you will have to pay $16 for 2, and that could potentially buy you a more filling main at a cafe!
While the prices may be a little hard to swallow, we are sure that the eclairs would taste otherwise! For a more detailed flavor profile of some of these eclairs, you may want to check out my previous post here, and you could also witness how creative these girls are in creating their eclairs. I’ll be looking forward to more exciting flavors and, my warmest congratulations to Sarah and Michelle for their opening!
