The honey butter flavor seems to be the salted egg in Korea. Everything honey buttered. And it is evident that we are seeing this trend spread to our little island as I hear of people spending $9 on that coveted pack of Calbee honey butter chips, and with the more influential Korean places like Chir Chir coming up with HONEY BUTTER chicken? The craze is definitely arriving or rather, has ARRIVED. P.S. I also heard that 2 packs of those Calbee chips went for $100 on eBay and it was SOLD. No way, man.

As some of you guys know, I went gallivanting in Bangkok just recently, I was extremely excited when I saw that LAY’S had their own version of Honey Butter Chips, apparently new in Thailand! I haven’t tried the ones from Calbee ones from Korea before but everyone’s raving over it, so I could only try to imagine how good it is.

I got one pack to try for myself in Bangkok, and woah.Photo Apr 09, 08 08 01Sorry this is the only picture I’ve got cause I got too excited and finished everything. Twice.

How did this fare? Gosh. Gosh. Gosh. I LOVED IT. You could smell the buttery goodness when you rip open the bag, akin to the popcorn we get from cinemas. Pop one chip into your mouth and I BET you wouldn’t be able to just stop there. This tasted so buttery and had a slight hint of honey towards the end, AND you’ll still be able to taste the taste of the original Lay’s chips. So many levels of flavors. So many levels of awesome. That sweet-savory combination just won me over. Oh gosh.

I had it for supper and breakfast. I initially intended to buy a whole box back to Singapore but I was alone and everything was SO HEAVY. And I regret very much for being such a weak lil shit then because I’m craving so badly for this now. The best part, nobody seems to be crazy over these packets of goodness in bangkok, and it’s widely found in ALL 7-11 outlets as well as their supermarkets at just 40baht (S$1.60). JUST $1.60.

If you are wondering what kind of souvenirs you should get for your friends from Bangkok, YOU KNOW WHAT TO GET NOW. GET ME SOME PLS. I’ll love you 5eva.
