Meet and Melt brings toasts to another level – MENTAIKO LAVA TOAST and MORE.


I’m sure, or rather, I hope most of you have remembered my previous post on Meet and Melt’s shibuya toasts at SCAPE. I am a HUGE fan of bread, butter and of course, both put together – SHIBUYA TOASTS.

With their rapid R&D and the hurry to jump to each and every bandwagon of the current food hype, the crowd at Meet and Melt increases gradually with each of my visits. The only painful thing of that place is probably them overdoing it with the screenshots of everyone’s instagram photo and plastering it everywhere in plain sight. Oh my eyes… Thank goodness they didn’t try to plaster them on the tables as well.

That eyesore aside, we were definitely thrilled to find out that they came up with a LAVA rendition of the super good Mentaiko toast we had previously!

photo-oct-29-8-19-18-pmPriced at $15.90, just an additional dollar from its non lava counterpart, this was pretty amazing. The toast stayed crisp and buttery and, while the mentaiko lava isn’t all that rich authentic mentaiko, it was addictive enough for me to wipe the brioche across the lava to soak up all that goodness. Gosh. They definitely have a way with their toasts. SO GOOD.

I would recommend this, hands down. But I don’t think I can say so far the rest of the other newer offerings.. photo-oct-29-8-05-42-pm-1Their version of Over the Top Waffles ($14.90) comes with a good idea of 4 flavored waffles – Normal, red velvet, pandan and charcoal, with a scoop of ice cream of choice. Hmm.. We could not taste the difference amongst the 4 limp and unimpressive waffles. Um I think red velvet and charcoal are a bad idea if they are going for different flavor profiles? Because honestly, what does red velvet taste like without cream cheese? Uh beetroot? Red coloring? And What does charcoal taste like? Uh. Charcoal. Even the one which we hoped the best for – pandan, was lack luster.

Maybe they should really stick to what they are good at – Toasts.

The other offering we had was the Kinder Bueno Mint Milkshake ($14.90), one of the various over the top milk shakes they have.

photo-oct-29-8-12-46-pmHeart attack in a cup, best for sharing. This was surprisingly not as sweet as I expected it to be! But, I just can’t bring myself to sip this. That amount of sugar and calories. Hahaha, then again, it’s just me.

Meet and Melt sure does have surprises up its sleeves every now and then! Hey I even heard that they have toast with raclette cheese now. See what I mean about voraciously hopping on to every bandwagon in sight? Well. It’s a good thing if they manage to execute it well, but in my very humble opinion, I’d prefer if they are able to halt rolling out new items within such a short time frame because that seriously spoils the “hype”, and no, I do not want to keep going down within a few weeks because I narrowly missed the new product launch, and if they ever run out of ideas one day, there’s gonna be no spark at all.

Just my 2 cents. But the mentaiko lava toast.. I’ll return for that.
