I’ve often been asked about why I started my Explodingbelly career, and I think I’ve mentioned the main reasons why in my much earlier post of Woes of Being a Food Blogger. Despite the woes and challenges, one of the biggest reasons why I’m still doing this even with my crazy busy no-life recruiter life, is the fact that FOOD gives me an opportunity to spend time with the people I cherish and meet up with new people.
It’s been amazing how this journey has brought so many people to my life as we first connected via our constant need to post on our instagrams, HAHA, and grew closer with our passion for food, and eventually becoming genuine friends who spend time with each other simply because we enjoy the company. Food is also one of the best ways I connect with the people around me. I genuinely enjoy the small talks we make over a meal and then simply chilling out there after and talking about everything under the sun, or basically have a bitching session lah, (don’t think I don’t know). I’m pretty sure we all have had one of those experiences and it constantly amazes me how food is able to keep people connected and nurture relationships.
One classic example of how the topic of FOOD has helped me to build connection aside from my “instagram friends”, is the fact that it has allowed me to spend more time with my colleagues – to my surprise! Before I started work, I always had this nagging worry at the back of my mind that I’ll never be able to find friends in my colleagues but this worry has been proven to be unnecessary as we connected via our passion for food, because WALAO WHICH SINGAPOREAN DON’T LIKE TO EAT. We even went for a 10km hike together just because we wanted to go to Riders café after the hike. HAHA!
It’s the thought of having a meal that makes us do crazy things like this, and we had an impromptu trip to KL over the weekends just because. Food.
We ate like the entire time we were awake.
It’s pretty evident how food plays a HUGE part in my social life, and I’m pretty sure it does for most of you as well. It’s like when you guys plan for first dates, first meet-ups with strangers from various apps, is also meet up for a meal right? Haha!
Speaking of mobile apps, the recently launched Bite app realizes the power of food and has decided to bring the best of both worlds together – connecting strangers over their passion for food. You can match to people with the same interests and similar taste in food, so you guys can connect via a meal you both enjoy, and you no need to worry your first date is a vegan when you bring her to a steakhouse. What a clever idea! You can find the Bite app – www.bite-official.com, on both Google Play Stores and Apple App Store, and start making friends over a good meal!
Be right back! Finding someone who has the same passion as me to eat weird exotic (and cek ark) food like turtle soup.
